GB Machin Definitives

The Machin Definitive, designed by Arnold Machin, was first issued on 5th June 1967 to replace the previous Wilding Design.

These original issues were pre-decimal, but the Machin definitive design has stood the test of time, with several proposals to replace the Machin design being rejected by the Queen over the decades.

The Machin design has been featured on many innovative stamps over the years, seeing elliptical perforations, U-shaped slits, double-headed designs, iridescent overprints and the recent addition of barcodes. These features have created a huge range of variations, along with thousands of colours and values, making Machin definitives very popular with collectors.
